Edward D. Senella Memorial Scholarship

Introduction: This scholarship program is established in honor of Edward D. Senella, a valued former member of the TTC community. It celebrates his dedication to assisting those affected by substance use disorders (SUD) and underscores the importance he placed on education as a transformative tool in the field.

Purpose: The scholarship represents a beacon of hope and opportunity at Tarzana Treatment Centers College (TTCC) by offering financial support to those aspiring to pursue the SUD Counseling Certificate. This scholarship is about supporting individuals who have demonstrated a desire and potential to serve those impacted by SUD; especially members of the community who have faced the challenges of substance misuse firsthand. It stands as a testament to TTCC’s dedication to inclusivity and empowerment in the field of SUD treatment and recovery. By embracing individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences, the Edward D. Senella Memorial Scholarship fosters future SUD professionals, rebuilds lives, and strengthens communities. 

The scholarship covers the following expenses:  

  • TTCC SUD Tuition  
  • Student registration for accreditation Fees (CAADE, CADPT, or CCAPP) 
  • Access to the IC&RC Exam Preparation Course  
  • Registration for the SUD Certification Exam  
  • Course Materials
  • Graduation Fees

Eligibility Requirements:  

  • Must be 18 years of age or older. 
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  
  • Must be out of SUD treatment for a minimum of 1 year. 
  • Complete TTCC SUD application: Apply Now – Tarzana Treatment Centers College (ttccollege.org) 
  • Complete the scholarship personal statement prompt.  
  • Submit at least one letter of support. 
  • Successfully complete scholarship interview 

This scholarship is specifically tailored for:  

  • TTC Employees: Dedicated professionals currently part of the TTC team, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to expanding their expertise in SUD treatment.  
  • Employees of Other SUD Provider Agencies: Those individuals working in other SUD treatment facilities and who exhibit a strong passion for enhancing their skills and knowledge. This scholarship recognizes their dedication to the field and the vital role they play in community health and well-being. 
  • Community Members Directly Impacted by Substance Misuse: Understanding that real-world experience and personal journeys deeply enrich learning and empathetic understanding in this field, the scholarship is also open to individuals from the community who have been personally touched by substance misuse. Their unique perspectives and insights are invaluable and fostering a more compassionate and effective approach to SUD treatment. 

Personal Statement Prompt: 
As part of the application process, you are required to submit a personal statement that demonstrates your commitment to the SUD field and your future as an SUD counselor.   

In no more than 1,000 words, please address the following: 

  • Inspiration and Alignment: What has inspired you to pursue a career as a certified substance use disorder counselor, and how does this align with your long-term career goals? 
  • Application of Knowledge: How would you apply the knowledge and skills gained from this scholarship program to serve the substance use disorder community? 
  • Community Engagement: How would you raise awareness about substance use disorder in your community and help connect individuals with available resources? 

Letters of Support:

Please submit 1-2 letters of support. At least one letter must be from someone who can verify your stated relationship to the SUD field. These letters should provide insights into your character, accomplishments, and suitability for the scholarship. Please ensure each letter is clearly labeled with your name and its purpose and send them to the email address below.

Submission Requirements: 

Please submit your personal statement and letter(s) of support to ttccscholarships@tarzanatc.org. Students will be considered for cohorts based on the following submission deadlines:

Scholarship Application Deadline: 

  • October 1, 2024 (Cohort Start Date: November 4, 2024) 
  • November 1, 2024 (Cohort Start Date: December 30, 2024) 
  • January 3, 2025 (Cohort Start Date: March 3, 2025) 

After submitting your application, you will be contacted to schedule a scholarship interview. Upon completion of the interview, students will receive a decision within 10 business days. Students offered the scholarship must confirm acceptance within 20 days of the decision.
